Gabor Szalay tells us the story behind this album “We were asked to record this album with a line-up of two guitars and a double bass by Mr. Róbert Zoltán Hunka of Hunnia Records. He had heard this material earlier when I played together in a trio with the late great guitar maestro, Gyula Babos and the excellent bass player, Viktor Hárs. This album is a tribute to that outfit.
We tried to recreate the spirit of the trio by using similar material. In place of the late Gyula Babos, my friend, the excellent István Gyárfás plays the other guitar. The material is made up of well-known standards with the exception of “The Dreamer” which was composed by myself earlier, but on the album, it’s dedicated to Gyula in memoriam. We only recorded just one take of each song and made absolutely no corrections afterwards in order to give it a live feel.
I would like to thank Pisti (“Gyaf”) and Viktor for their great playing. I would also like to thank my family – Mária and Imre Szalay, Beni Szalay and Erika.
