Funk, Blues & Soul in Pure DSD 256 Stereo!
Sugar Hip Ya Ya is the debut album from singer Dionne Bennett on Hunnia Records. The album features two Soul Classics – Tell Mama written by Clarence Carter and made famous by Etta James and Yes We Can Can written by Allen Toussaint and made famous by The Pointer Sisters and Lee Dorsey – plus eight original songs, seven of which were written or co-written by Little G Weevil.
The album was recorded and is being released in Pure DSD 256 Stereo. It was produced by Little G Weevil who released a Pure DSD 256 Blues album on Hunnia Records earlier this year (also available from NativeDSD). It features Dionne Bennett on Vocals, Laszlo Borson on Guitar, Matyas Premecz on Hammond B3 Organ and Keyboards, Attila Herr on Bass and Lajos Gyenge on Drums and Percussion. Plus, a host of featured musicians and singers – including Robert Zoltan Hunka from Hunnia Records!
Dionne Bennett is a British/West-Indian singer-songwriter, producer, and radio personality. She started singing and performing live at age 14 and released her first soul single by the time she was 15. Dionne is internationally known for her unique and diverse vocal style that covers all Afro-culture influenced genres from Blues, Jazz to Rhythm & Blues, Soul, Reggae, Drum Bass Funk, Rock & Roll, and beyond.
During her career she has performed throughout Europe, and has shared the stage with music legends such as Dr. John and Maceo Parker. She has also opened for the British supergroup Oasis as one of the vocalists of the ’The Peth’ fronted by Welsh actor, producer, and singer Rhys Ifans.
Dionne Bennett is an exceptional and universal talent which shows on the variety of genres she has blessed with her golden voice. She has released singles with renowned jazz pianist Jason Rebello, Grammy award winner saxophone player Tim Garland, and rock bands including Super Furry Animals and The Earth.

By the time Dionne Bennett dims the lights with the steamy reggae track “My Life”, she’s thoroughly rocked the listener with a trio of burners including a rave-up workout on the Etta James-popularized “Tell Mama”.
A natural soul scorcher of the Tina Turner variety, the British/West Indian vocalist is consistently strong on a set primarily built on producer Little G Weevil-penned originals. Other tracks of note include “Get Style”, “Spy Me” and the title track.

Another great discovery on the Native DSD site which I greatly appreciate for the high quality of its service and the DSD files offered.
The Pure DSD files offered exclusively at Native DSD are pure happiness. Unfortunately for me, many of the Native DSD albums are Classical Music which is not my main interest (a matter of taste).
With this album, I discover an extraordinary singer. She offers and masters a wide choice of musical styles. This is a magnificent album that is well recorded. The percussive rhythm section and the music is not tiring to listen to with headphones even at high volume.
