“I have heard more nonsense about the seventh and eighth symphonies than about any of my other work. Strange, how persistent these stupidities are. At times, I am amazed at how lazy people are when it comes to thinking. Everything that was written about this symphony during the first few days is still repeated unchanged to this day. Surely there has been enough time to think about it.” Evidently, Dmitri Shostakovich felt a strong urge, decades after composing his Symphony No. 7, to prompt listeners (and probably musicians as well) to think carefully about its true significance: for his seventh symphony was surrounded by more than enough ambiguity and unilateral propaganda.

MusicWeb International – Recording of the Month
Even more impressive is the superb recording, whose perspectives are as close to the concert-hall experience as I’ve heard in a very long time.
An unaffected, deeply humanising Seventh; quite possibly the best thing Paavo Järvi has ever done.
