The Nordic Sound is a collection of 19 tracks from the 2L catalog. They include the label’s early PCM recordings as well as their later DXD recordings. The album is available at the NativeDSD Music store in Stereo and Multichannel DSD and DXD. This best-selling 2L Sampler includes 9 selections (Tracks 1, 2, 5, 9, 11, 13, 14, 15 and 17) that were recorded in DXD. The 10 remaining tracks were recorded in lower PCM resolutions, which have been upsampled to DXD by 2L (more information in the album booklet).
NativeDSD is making this album available to our customers as an introduction to the 2L catalog. Even though some of the earliest released 2L tracks are PCM sourced and would not usually be eligible for a release at NativeDSD, we publish anthologies like these from time to time for the labels that made the switch to DSD, with complete provenance information and explanation. 2L adopted the new recording technologies as they came available. This is a wonderful collection of 2L catalog highlights that we trust you will enjoy.
2L says “From combined musical and audiophile criteria we have compiled a collection of the most excellent and impressive recordings 2L (Lindberg Lyd) have to offer. 9 of the tracks originate from DXD (352.8kHz/24bit), presented now in DSD and DXD Stereo and Multichannel.
Two of the albums represented in this compilation have been Grammy Award nominated for the “Best Surround Sound Album”. Discover what the unique 2L Nordic Sound is all about with this album.”

Soundstage
The Nordic Sound from 2L is one of the best samplers ever. It has 19 tracks from the remarkable 2L catalog, and each varies greatly in character and sound design. Each track’s only common element is that its sound seems absolutely perfect for the music it conveys.
There’s a cut here from the Mozart violin concerto disc that first attracted many to the label, as well as an excerpt from Benjamin Britten’s Simple Symphony from the Trondheim soloists. The rest range from the percussion cacophony of Nordheim’s Colorazione (the deep bass drum and the crashing cymbal will give your entire audio system a workout), to the ethereal serenity of Gregorian chant.
2L consistently produces audiophile recordings that are at the top of the heap in both music and sound. Like Pixar with animated film, 2L seems unable to do wrong.
AllMusic
2L’s sampler The Nordic Sound includes 19 musical selections taken from their growing, broad selection of recordings ranging from Mozart and Vivaldi to Schoenberg and Carter and beyond. The goal, presumably, is to make an argument for the superiority surround sound not just for movies, but for music as well.
There can be little question that the surround options offer a far more pleasing listening experience; the level of detail and realism offered in these formats vastly exceeds the stereo tracks.
