Battista Lena

Born in Viareggio son of art critic and feminist Carla Lonzi. He lived in Milan until 1973 where he began to play the guitar. Later he moved with his mother to Rome, where he became interested in studying Jazz with Eddy Palermo. Professionally active since the mid-’80s working with Roberto Gatto with whom he recorded five CDs.
From 1991 to 1996 he took part in almost all projects of trumpeter Enrico Rava and in training with Italian Roberto Gatto and Paolino Dalla Porta and in the European Union with Palle Danielsson and Jon Christensen, recording “Rava l’Opera Go,” winner of the referendum held by the magazine Musica Jazz for “Best Album of the Year” in 1994. With these formations made ??several toured in Europe.
In 2008, the prestigious German radio WDR Big Band Big Band Koln Euroradio has made recordings and concerts dedicated to his music.
Has been teaching jazz guitar masterclasses in Siena Jazz, Roccella Jonica.
Since 2008 he teaches jazz guitar and composition at New York University in Florence.
