When Beethoven arrived in Vienna in 1792, just a few weeks before his 22nd Birthday. It was to study with the world’s most famous comoser and to absorb some of the atmosphere of what was arguably the musical capital of the world. – ‘to receive the spirit of Mozart from the hands of Haydn’ as one friend back in Bonn put it. But it was as a virtuoso pianist that he first made his name.
